Domestic violence in Australia has reached a crisis point, with society urgently asking, “What can be done?” While legal and systemic interventions play a role, real change must also come from within men themselves. Too often, emotions like anger, shame, and frustration—key drivers of violent behaviour—go unaddressed due to rigid expectations around masculinity. “A-Men” explores how grassroots men’s groups are stepping up to tackle this issue from the inside out. By creating safe spaces where men can openly confront their emotions, hold each other accountable, and find constructive outlets like dance, these groups provide a vital missing piece of the solution. This film highlights how movement, vulnerability, and peer support can break cycles of harm and build healthier expressions of masculinity. “A-Men” is a call to recognise and support these efforts as a crucial part of preventing violence before it starts.

With A-Men, we aim to shift the narrative around domestic violence by emphasising the role men can play in addressing the issue themselves. The change we want to see is a cultural shift where men feel empowered to take responsibility for their emotions and actions, and where the importance of safe, judgment-free spaces for men to work through their feelings becomes more widely recognised.

Practically, the impact vision includes community screenings, panel discussions, and partnerships with organisations working in the areas of mental health, domestic violence prevention, and men’s health. Our goal is for the film to serve as a catalyst for conversations and workshops around these themes, using the film to inspire similar groups to form and expand across Australia and globally. We also plan to work with educators to incorporate the film into school curriculums, where it can be used to spark discussions around emotional regulation and healthy masculinity in younger generations.

The film will also be integrated into educational programs, encouraging young men to develop healthier emotional tools early on. Alongside the film, a companion impact campaign will provide digital resources, podcasts, and educational materials, ensuring that “A-Men” continues to spark dialogue and empower men to take an active role in preventing violence.

My relationship and access to the community involved in “A-Men” are deeply connected through personal engagement and direct communication channels that I’ve established over time. My access is facilitated by my active presence on social media, which serves as a crucial bridge to the individuals and groups related to the film’s themes.

Through platforms like Tiktok, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, I regularly share behind-the-scenes content, updates, and engage in discussions related to the film. This continuous interaction has helped me build trust and a loyal following among those interested in topics of masculinity, mental health, and social change.

I also utilise social media to connect with key influencers and organisations who advocate for mental health awareness and gender equity. These connections not only enrich my understanding and approach but also expand my reach to involve a wider audience that can impact societal perceptions and norms.

Furthermore, the feedback I gather from social media interactions informs my ongoing work, allowing me to better address the community’s needs and concerns. This dynamic and interactive relationship enhances my ability to make meaningful contributions through my projects and to support initiatives that align with the themes explored in “A-Men.”
