Duct Tape Surfer

This film is a much needed reminder of one woman’s lasting global impact through the first hand stories of her friends who were with her every step of the way, all the while finding closure for themselves as her journey comes to an end. Pascale Honore was an ambassador for hope and focus on ability. Her story is one of mateship and adventure as her friends and family helped her achieve what she thought was an impossible dream, and that changed all their lives forever. She was fearless and despite being wheelchair bound she never defined herself by her disability, living every moment to the fullest and that resonated with people all over the world, especially others within the disabled community. This film shows 3 things: that there are people out there with disabilities who dream, there are people out there who will help you achieve them and you must allow space to grieve loss whatever that loss may be.

While we want Pascale Honore’s story to inspire more disabled people of all ages to feel empowered we also want them and their able-bodied friends and family to feel seen as the Duct Tape Surfing journey is laid out warts and all, because unfortunately it wasn’t all highs and no lows. There’s room for more positive stories like Pascale’s on screen and she’s said in the past, we need more of them. Pascale was a special person who found joy, kindness and freedom against what life threw at her and all she ever wanted was to keep spreading that joy and kindness and keep showing the world that there are more ways than one for a paraplegic woman to find her freedom again.

We hope that people will see themselves in Pascale, Ty, Tom, Morgs and Mark. In Pascale, audiences will find a strong, adventurous woman who enjoyed every aspect of life despite the negatives it threw her at times. And in the others we’ll see young men being kind, vulnerable and allowing themselves space to process their emotions. The change we’re hoping to make is more than likely going to be an intrinsic one. We also want people to understand that she wasn’t just inspirational because she was disabled and doing all these cool fun things, she was inspirational because she was unapologetically being herself.

Mark Tipple is both a character and Associate Producer and is key to access to this community. As one of the four friends who took part in Pascale’s life and overall story and friend to Producer Sarah Hatzon the team has full access to all relationships that will be explored.

We would love for our audience to participate in #ducttapesurfing by sharing their own wins and achievements against all odds. We want to encourage those within disabled communities especially to participate and this can be any kind of win that’s meaningful to finding their joy and freedom.
